ELK Lighting:
A 3, 4 or 5 digit number (item code) which may be followed by 1 to 4 additional digits which modify the specification. The entire string may have a following alphabetic letter (finish code). For searching there are dashes between each element. For example, 6031-8-8-4 is a proper search code. Note that in the ELK catalog the dashes may be slashes or pluses. The catalog code for the item above is 6031/8+8+4 but for searching the special characters have been changed to dashes. Not all codes have modifiers and can be simply a 3 to 5 digit number.

Murray Feiss Lighting:
Two letters (category code) followed by four numbers (item code) followed by one or two letters (finish code). Generally, do not use any spaces or dashes. There are a few products, however, that have two finish codes separated by a dash. For example, TF1784VB is a normal code, BA1101PW-PB is also valid. Note that in the catalog the code would be BA1101PW/PB but for searching the / has become a dash

A combination of code types.
